5 things to spend time on and make money during coronavirus quarantine

Staying in quarantine can be frustrating – even if and especially if you’re not sick. Try these five ways to fight boredom and make money at the same time.

1. Answer online surveys

Taking part in online surveys has two great benefits if you’re confined at home with nothing to do: it makes the time move faster and it gives you a chance to make some money while you’re at it. For example, here at Surveyeah we compensate our panelists with Amazon gift cards, so you can use your voucher to get some books or games, among others, to fight boredom even further.

2. Learn a new skill that you can use remotely

With some extra time on your hands, why not put it to good use and learn a new skill? Better yet, study something that will allow you to work remotely and gain some extra money. For example, social media content creation and community management skills are in high demand, and those jobs can easily be done from home. If social media is not up your alley, how about graphic design, search engine optimization or teaching your language to foreigners? Shaw Academy, Udemy and LinkedIn Learning are some platforms that offer a variety of courses to update your skill set.

3. Start a virtual apprenticeship or voluntary project

These options won’t literally bring you any money but if you’re in need of work experience, apprenticeship is a great way to get started and a remote apprenticeship is safe even in these times of virus. Many organizations are also looking for volunteers to step up their remote game these days. For example, tutoring can often be done via Skype. Many skills mentioned before are also in demand among voluntary projects. United Nations, for example, offers various online opportunities.

4. Create your first downloadable product

If you have a website or a decent social media following, you can monetize that by selling digital products for your audience. Could you write a downloadable guide or template in your specialty? Or could you maybe host a masterclass? Check out our other tips on earning money online:

5. Sell unwanted electronics, designer bags or shoes

Emptying your closets when spending time at home is a real classic – but take it to the next level and try selling some of that old stuff. Designer bags or shoes which are still in good shape or an electronic gadget that is not too old but you just don’t like using can be transformed into money rather quickly. However, stick to delivery instead of people picking the stuff from your place – and even this only if you’re completely healthy!
